About The Role: We are looking for an experienced and proactive Superintendent – Technical Services to provide strategic leadership across the Maules Creek Coal open-cut operation. This role oversees a broad range of critical functions, including Geotechnical Geology & Exploration, Coal Quality & logistics, Survey and Water Management You will be responsible for ensuring all technical activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with statutory regulations, company policies, and operational procedures. Your leadership will drive team performance, maintain exceptional safety standards, and support the successful execution of mine plans, budgets, and forecasts. This position operates on a 9-day fortnight and is ideally suited to candidates seeking a residential lifestyle. DIDO arrangements with camp accommodation may also be considered for the right candidate. This is a fantastic opportunity for an established Superintendent or a highly capable Senior Geologist or Engineer looking to step up into a leadership role and further develop their professional capability. What You'll Do: Provide strategic leadership across all Technical Services functions to ensure safe, efficient overburden and coal extraction aligned with mine plans and statutory requirements. Manage the exploration program and budget, contributing technical insights that support ongoing operational planning and long-term resource development. Drive continuous improvement by optimising costs, managing contractor performance, and identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiency. Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of Engineers, Surveyors, Geologists, and Geotechnical specialists. Standardise processes and effectively allocate people, systems, and resources to support compliant, high-quality technical outcomes, including adherence to the WHC Technical services framework and MCC Safety management system Ensure adequate resourcing for technical functions and deliver accurate Mine Survey, Geological and coal quality Models, along with weekly, monthly and STP Feed & Product forecasts. What You'll Bring: A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or a related technical discipline. Proven leadership experience in a similar role, ideally within an open-cut coal mining environment. At least 8 years of industry experience with a strong track record of technical delivery and operational leadership. Proficiency with major mining software platforms such as Maptek Vulcan or Deswik. A solid understanding of safety management principles and a commitment to implementing practical, effective safety systems. Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing, multidisciplinary technical team. Why Whitehaven Coal?
