The APVMA's Agricultural Chemicals is seeking applications for an Assistant Director Efficacy and Safety to provide technical and regulatory leadership to APVMA staff and external service providers conducting efficacy and safety assessments. Located in either Canberra ACT or regional Armidale NSW, you will gain experience in the Australian Public Service, have access to a variety of flexible working arrangements, and play an integral role in the scientific assessment of pesticides, ensuring effective and safe crop protection tools for Australian farmers. Working with a high level of autonomy and exercising legislated delegations, the Assistant Director, Efficacy and Safety makes sound scientific decisions based on their professional judgement. This involves utilising the specialist expertise within their team and a comprehensive knowledge of the APVMA's operational policy and legislative framework in order to evaluate and mitigate risks. The Assistant Director, Efficacy and Safety will demonstrate capability in developing technical policies to enhance efficacy and safety assessments, and strategic engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders to achieve regulatory outcomes. Their role will also involve prioritising action, effective people management, team capability development, continuous process review and improvement, and knowledge management. The key duties of the position include Provide technical and regulatory leadership to APVMA staff and external service providers conducting efficacy and safety assessments, to promote scientifically sound and consistent decision-making which adheres to regulatory best practice. Identifying and implementing innovative solutions and business improvements. Understanding and communicating the implications of efficacy and crop safety decisions and actions on the APVMA's business objectives and stakeholders. Overseeing the preparation and quality of technical reports, specialist advice on the interpretation of data and satiation of statutory criteria, operational policies and procedures within a regulatory framework. Contributing to the development of written material including guidance documents for applicants and internal guidance material, which keep pace with advancing technology and contemporary regulatory and agronomic practice. Representing APVMA in domestic and international fora. Strategically developing relationships with stakeholders to leverage regulatory objectives. Contributing to the strategy and operations of the Branch and the APVMA.
