About the role… This full-time role sits within our Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS), a free, early-intervention program funded by the Department of Social Services. FMHSS supports children and young people aged 0–18, along with their families, who are at risk of or experiencing mental health challenges. Support is trauma-informed, strengths-based, culturally safe, and delivered across schools, community locations, Telehealth, and our offices. Our team is growing in response to high demand for our service, and we now have two full-time contract opportunities available (one 6-month contract and one 12-month contract, both with potential to extend) to help meet the needs of local families. As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will provide practical, relationship-focused support designed to strengthen the emotional wellbeing of children, young people, and their families. In this role, you will: Provide warm, engaging 1:1 support to children and young people Support parents and carers with psychoeducation and practical strategies Facilitate group programs in schools and community settings (e.g., social skills, resilience, emotional literacy, anxiety management) Offer referral support and service navigation, connecting families with psychologists, paediatricians, youth programs, cultural supports, and other services Build collaborative relationships with schools, community agencies, and local partners Maintain high-quality documentation, intake notes, and action plans This is a meaningful, hands-on role where you’ll see real impact in the lives of children, young people, and families. About you… This role is ideal for someone passionate about early-intervention mental health and community connection. You may come from a background in youth work, community services, counselling, psychology, disability, education, or family support. Lived experience is also valued.
