Case Worker – Domestic and Family Violence Make a meaningful impact during a critical time for women and children experiencing DFV This short term role offers the opportunity to make a significant and immediate difference in the lives of women and children seeking safety from domestic and family violence. During the mid December period, when risks often escalate and support options may be limited, your expertise will help ensure their safety, stability and dignity. 3 to 4 week temporary contract starting mid December with the potential to extend Full time role, located close to Parramatta, Sydney Ideal role for someone who is available immediately and available for work in December and January As a Case Worker, you will provide compassionate, trauma informed support that empowers women to make decisions about their future and rebuild their lives. Your presence will help maintain the continuity of a vital service during a time of heightened need, ensuring every woman and child who reaches out receives the care, advocacy and protection they deserve. Impact of the role Reporting to the Client Services Manager, you will step in to deliver high impact, client focused support. This includes safety planning, case management, short term accommodation support, advocacy and crisis response. You will help clients stabilise their immediate situation while laying the foundations for safe and secure housing. Your work directly strengthens the safety net for families escaping violence by helping them create new pathways, regain confidence and access the resources they need to begin healing. Key Responsibilities Provide immediate, practical and emotional support to women and children experiencing crisis Develop safety plans and support strategies that prioritise dignity, safety and long term stability Conduct intake assessments, risk evaluations and case planning with professionalism and cultural awareness Deliver individual casework that empowers women to make informed and safe decisions Advocate for clients needs across housing, legal, financial and wellbeing areas Build strong working relationships with external service providers to coordinate effective support Facilitate group programs, house meetings and child or family activities Maintain a welcoming, safe and stable environment within the Shelter Assist with preparing rooms for intake, household tasks and day to day Shelter operations Provide telephone support and information to clients and community members Participate in shift handovers and debriefs to ensure seamless care Transport clients to appointments and, when needed, supervise children during short periods Maintain accurate case notes and organise documentation to meet compliance requirements Follow legislative and organisational child safety reporting obligations Uphold confidentiality, professional boundaries and organisational policies at all times About You You understand the profound impact that safety, compassion and stability can have on a woman or child fleeing violence. You bring professionalism, warmth and the experience needed to provide meaningful support from day one. Essential Relevant qualification or experience in domestic and family violence or child protection ideally within a refuge environment. Strong understanding of trauma informed practice and relevant NSW legislation Confidence in managing crisis situations with empathy and composure Ability to work respectfully with culturally diverse and First Nations clients Competence with case management systems and MS Office Current drivers licence, working rights in Australia and COVID 19 vaccination Hold a WWCC and current police check Availability to work flexibly during the mid December to early January period, including some on call support Desirable Experience in community based or small team environments Understanding of DFV related homelessness and current best practice responses This position is open to women only, in accordance with section 31 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1977 NSW and section 30 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984 Cth.
