Their Old School Reserve range honours hands-on winemaking with full-flavoured, character-driven wines from old vines. Willespie Estate is now looking for an experienced Agricultural Consultant to join their team The right candidate will be responsible for: Collect and analyse vineyard data, including soil tests, leaf and petiole samples, fruit quality, water usage, pests, and disease pressures to guide annual vineyard management decisions. Advise vineyard managers on optimising grape production, including canopy management, pruning systems, irrigation strategies, varietal selection, and sustainable alternatives to improve vine health and yield. Provide guidance on vineyard health issues, such as fungal diseases, insect pests, weed control, soil nutrition, and sustainable vineyard floor management practices. Study environmental influences on vine performance, including climate patterns, soil structure, water availability, biodiversity impacts, and the long-term viability of heritage vines. Assess the effects of cultivation techniques, such as trellising, cover cropping, fertilisation, irrigation, and organic amendments, on grape quality and vineyard productivity. Develop improved production procedures, recommending modern viticultural techniques, sustainable farming systems, and efficiency measures to enhance grape quality for premium wine production. Support management of estate natural resources, ensuring long-term sustainability of vineyard soils, native vegetation, and surrounding landscapes, balancing commercial outcomes with environmental care. Advise on vineyard planting and propagation, including rootstock selection, clone choice, spacing, and replanting strategies to maintain heritage blocks and improve future yields. Prepare replanting and redevelopment plans for older vineyard sections, incorporating modern vineyard design to improve operational efficiency and grape quality. Plan and recommend risk-management strategies for weather extremes (frost, heat, drought), disease outbreaks, soil degradation, and other environmental threats impacting production.
