I’m working with a major Australian enterprise undertaking a large-scale AI uplift, and we’re looking for a senior hands-on engineer to lead the build of a new, unified AI platform. This is a greenfield initiative designed to give data science and analytics teams a secure, scalable environment for ML experimentation, GenAI development, and enterprise-grade model deployment. Length: 6 months rolling (Long-term program) Location : Sydney (Hybrid) What You’ll Do Lead the end-to-end build and operationalisation of a centralised AI/ML platform , supporting rapid experimentation and scalable production usage across ML and GenAI. Deliver iterative releases and continuously evolve the platform in response to user needs and emerging capability requirements. Build and integrate key components across ML development tooling, GenAI/prompt engineering environments, and enterprise inference services. Develop core platform engineering assets - IaC, CI/CD pipelines, architecture documentation, standards, operational runbooks, and reusable patterns. Provide senior technical leadership across AWS-native services (SageMaker, Bedrock, S3, RDS, Teradata) and modern AI/ML platform architectures. Translate high-level concepts into detailed technical designs, execution plans, and actionable engineering backlog items. Support adoption by onboarding data science and analytics teams, ensuring strong performance, governance, observability, and cost efficiency. Collaborate across Product, Security, Architecture, Cloud, and Data teams while mentoring engineers and promoting engineering excellence. What You’ll Bring 10 years’ experience building and operating large-scale data, AI/ML, or cloud platforms in complex enterprise environments. Strong AWS expertise, especially SageMaker, Bedrock, S3, IAM, and modern DevOps/MLOps tooling. Proven ability to design and deliver secure, governed, cost-efficient AI/ML platform capabilities. Hands-on experience with IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation) and CI/CD automation. Experience establishing platform engineering standards and reusable patterns in greenfield or early-stage AI initiatives. Ability to lead technical delivery end-to-end while mentoring and uplifting engineering teams. Skilled at converting high-level architecture and product requirements into actionable technical plans. Familiarity with GenAI/LLM tooling and prompt engineering (advantageous). Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. AWS or relevant DevOps/MLOps certifications highly regarded.
