Your Next Employer Khancoban Station is a long-held Upper Murray asset shaped by steady investment, practical management and a clear commitment to long-term improvement. The 2,000ha property spans river flats and hill country, combining a high-quality Angus breeding herd with a well-established hybrid seed program. The cattle enterprise is central to how the station operates. Built on Rennylea genetics and disciplined grazing, it anchors day-to-day decisions. Alongside livestock, the station crops 340–500ha annually, with around 90% dedicated to hybrid seed to support rotation, weed control and additional income, while pastures and cattle remain the priority. The owners have invested heavily in infrastructure over many years, including fencing, water, yards, machinery, housing and subdivision. A capable team of five permanent staff supports operations and creates a stable environment for a manager looking to lift grazing efficiency, refine the cattle and seed balance and guide future development across irrigation and the satellite blocks. This is a business that values a forward-thinking, commercial mindset and someone who can weigh options, plan clearly and communicate with confidence. The owners live off farm but remain engaged in strategic direction. You will be joining a business that looks long-term, values integrity and trust and backs good plans with capital, while giving their manager the autonomy to deliver progress through practical, paddock-first leadership. The Role This is a hands-on leadership role with full responsibility for day-to-day operations across livestock, seed production, irrigation, people and property presentation. You will set the tone from the paddock by leading alongside the team and understanding the work firsthand, while still bringing the structure and planning discipline the role requires. You will report directly to the owners, with strategic input from a trusted adviser. It is a genuine partnership rather than a corporate chain of command. Capital is available where the commercial case is clear, and your job is to provide the planning, data and confidence that shape the station’s direction. A typical week blends grazing and pasture utilisation, coordination of cropping and irrigation programs, leading the team, and providing clear and concise updates to keep the owners across key decisions. You will balance desk-based planning and reporting with time in the paddock so you remain connected to the work, the team and seasonal priorities. Key Responsibilities Lead day-to-day operations: Direct livestock, seed, irrigation and general farm activity across the station and satellite blocks. Lift grazing performance: Improve pasture utilisation and implement tighter, more responsive grazing rotations. Manage the Angus herd: Oversee breeding strategy, fertility, bull selection, herd health and seasonal marketing decisions. Coordinate seed production: Work with external agronomists and seed partners on rotations, crop management and enterprise performance. Guide irrigation development: Manage existing flood systems and progress feasibility work on pivot and infrastructure upgrades. Lead and mentor the team: Set clear expectations, develop capability and maintain a steady, fair working culture. Plan, budget and report: Deliver concise weekly updates and clear monthly reporting that support commercial planning. Maintain property standards: Keep fencing, weeds, tracks, yards, gardens and infrastructure to a consistent, high standard. Represent the station: Host owners and visitors professionally and maintain strong ties within the local community. What You Bring Our ideal candidate will bring a strong livestock and pasture background, practical leadership in the paddock, and the planning discipline needed to stay ahead of seasonal and operational demands. You will also bring: Confidence managing cattle and implementing responsive grazing rotations. A steady, hands-on leadership style that earns trust without ego. Clear communication skills, able to distil what matters into simple weekly and monthly updates. A commercial mindset, comfortable weighing up cattle, seed and pasture trade-offs. Machinery confidence and practical problem-solving skills. The ability to work effectively within an off-farm ownership model. What You’ll Gain Package: $135k – $165k (neg) Super, fully maintained ute, and a modern 4-bedroom manager’s home with privacy and outstanding views. Incentives: Highly competitive performance-based incentive/profit share structure to be structured around the right individual. Autonomy : Genuine scope to run the station day to day, with decisions guided by data and your judgement, not micro-management. Lifestyle : Upper Murray living with river, mountains and a strong local community, plus good access to services, schools and regional centres.
