Your Next Employer You’ll join a privately owned Australian agricultural business investing heavily in new irrigated cotton country in the Kimberley. ~800 ha is already developed and in crop, with the next 600 ha underway as part of a 6,000 ha build program over the coming years. The operation is well-backed and practically run, with solid systems already in place - though there’s scope to tighten and refine them as the project scales. It’s a pragmatic, no-nonsense culture that values good planning, clear communication and hands-on leadership over hierarchy. The Role Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll take ownership of day-to-day delivery - leading crews, coordinating machinery, and keeping the development moving to plan. This is a boots-on-the-ground role , not a desk job. You won’t be operating daily, but you’ll be in the field checking grades, confirming set-out, troubleshooting, and keeping people and plant on track. Your core focus is bulk earthworks and precision land-levelling - the foundation of the irrigation build. Irrigation installation and commissioning form an important part of the overall program; however, your initial focus will be on the former. You’ll work closely with engineers, surveyors, and other external consultants, but the emphasis is firmly on execution, not paperwork. Key Responsibilities Lead Operations: Set priorities, allocate resources, manage rosters/toolbox, and keep clear comms across a ~25km site. Deliver Earthworks: Oversee cut/fill, land levelling, and GPS/laser grading to tolerance; validate levels/falls before works commence. Build Irrigation: Coordinate installation and commissioning of pump stations, channels and surface systems (bankless/siphon). Maximise Uptime: Monitor utilisation, fuel/consumables and maintenance scheduling; drive quick-turn fixes with the workshop. Plan & QA: Convert annual targets into weekly run-orders and milestones; keep as-built records and machine data tidy. Stakeholders: Report progress, risks and mitigations; provide field-driven design feedback that improves constructability. What You Bring Experience leading farm development and/or civil earthworks at scale, ideally in irrigated cotton or surface irrigation. Strong practical knowledge of GPS/laser systems (e.g. Trimble FieldLevel II, T3rra) and machine-control workflows. Working understanding of pump stations, channels, drainage, and farm infrastructure. Proven ability to lead crews, plan work, and communicate effectively in low-signal environments. Calm, organised, and solutions-focused approach. Individuals looking to step up into a larger project are encouraged to apply. What You’ll Gain Remuneration: Industry-leading base salary 6 weeks annual leave. Benefits: Family-suitable accommodation (incl. utilities), all meals (on-site cook), fully maintained work vehicle, relocation. Assets & Fleet: CAT and John Deere machinery (graders, dozers, excavators, tractors, scrapers); new 64m × 43m workshop with 20-ton gantry; enhanced servicing with RDO support. Operating Rhythm: Dry-season earthworks (multiple laser buckets); wet-season planning, maintenance, training and commissioning.
