About the Role As a key member of the Medical Indemnity (MI) Line 1 Risk team, you’ll lead the execution of our Controls Assurance Plan (CAP), testing controls for all High risks across the organisation. You’ll work closely with business unit stakeholders, support control owners, and contribute to broader assurance activities that strengthen our risk culture and operational resilience. This is a newly created role, and as part of our transition to a centralised controls assurance model you’ll play a key role in centralising and elevating our controls testing capability, driving consistency, insight, and continuous improvement across the business. The role offers a unique opportunity to shape how assurance is delivered and embedded across Medical Indemnity. Key Responsibilities are: Controls Testing & Reporting · Develop and manage the controls assurance plan and testing cycle in collaboration with control owners across business units.· Maintain controls assurance methodology including tools, templates and reports· Assess and document control design and operating effectiveness using industry best practice methodology and aligned to the Operational Risk Management Standard (ORMS).· Evaluate the impact of incidents, complaints, and other data on control effectiveness. · Test complex controls and controls linked to high-rated risks, while ensuring that business unit testers are testing all other controls assigned to them · Communicate testing outcomes to control owners and leaders, identifying opportunities for improvement and recording issues Stakeholder Engagement & Coaching · Provide coaching and training to controls testers to help them critically evaluate control effectiveness, correctly apply tools and templates, and consistently document test outcomes · Embed a culture of proactive assurance and demonstrate the practical value of controls testing. Risk Insights & Continuous Improvement · Partner with Risk & Compliance Business Partners to update Risk & Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) based on testing insights. · Analyse controls assurance data to identify themes and trends across MI and report on these · Contribute to deep dives into specific processes and support the preparation of assurance reports for senior management. Line 1 Risk Support · Assist with the monthly Line 1 Risk report and other assurance-related activities as needed · Contribute to the documentation of controls for compliance obligations · Support Medical Indemnity’s risk maturity activities About You You’re a detail-oriented risk professional who enjoys learning about new processes and engaging stakeholders across the business to build a strong controls culture. You’re comfortable working independently and thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
