About the role We are seeking a committed and compassionate Family Support Worker to deliver early-intervention support to parents, caregivers, children, and the wider community. In this rewarding part-time role, you will nurture the development and wellbeing of families through group programs, education sessions, brief counselling, and referral pathways. You will play a key part in strengthening parenting capacity, enhancing child safety, and empowering families to thrive, with some outreach work required depending on region and program needs. Additionally, you will: Develop and deliver group programs and education sessions using evidence-based frameworks in child development, adult learning, and community capacity building. Provide brief intervention counselling to parents, carers, children, and families using appropriate therapeutic approaches. Use your knowledge of child protection issues to deliver effective early-intervention strategies that promote safety and wellbeing. Build strong partnerships with government and community agencies to enhance support networks for families. Conduct client intake, assessment, risk screening, and referrals to ensure clients are linked to the right services. Meet program targets for caseload and client sessions. Maintain confidentiality and uphold duty-of-care requirements, including responding to risks related to family violence, child safety, and wellbeing. Keep accurate client files, case notes, and records in line with organisational policy. About you You are a skilled and empathetic practitioner who is passionate about strengthening families and supporting children to feel safe, heard, and connected. You communicate with warmth and professionalism, work collaboratively, and bring a proactive, solutions-focused approach to your practice. You thrive in a client-centred environment and are committed to prevention, early intervention, and community capacity building. Additionally, you have: Tertiary qualifications in social or behavioural sciences, or relevant experience. Experience working therapeutically with children, parents, and families in areas related to child development, abuse and neglect. Experience supporting clients from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people living with disability, and people of diverse genders and identities. Strong knowledge of child protection legislation and frameworks. Understanding of child and adult education models and community development principles.
