ALS Coal Richlands is seeking a Petrographer , ideally with some prior experience. This is a newly created permanent salaried position. The role will begin on a day shift (6am–2pm) for approximately three months of training, after which you’ll have the option to move into varied shifts , including 2pm–10pm . Key Responsibilities Reporting to the Petrography Supervisor, you will: Prepare coal samples for petrographic analysis in line with Australian Standards Carry out routine petrographic work and general microscopy Meet project deadlines and contribute to strong customer satisfaction Keep up to date with relevant procedures and laboratory methods Follow all local and site safety rules to maintain a safe working environment Quality Responsibilities In this role, you are expected to: Follow all ALS policies and procedures Work in accordance with the ALS Code of Conduct Report any breaches or concerns to management Perform your duties to a high standard and support a strong quality culture in the lab Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities You will also: Understand and apply the company’s key HSE policies Be familiar with the safety and environmental requirements in the safety manual Ensure compliance with ALS HSE standards at all times Help maintain a safe and well-equipped laboratory environment Report and address any unsafe practices or environmental issues Support continual improvement of the safety and sustainability culture Comply with relevant state OHS legislation To be successful, you will bring: A Science degree or equivalent qualification Microscope experience (advantageous) Experience with coal or coal petrology (desirable) A proactive attitude and the ability to adapt to changing priorities Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work The ability to work both independently and as part of a team Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Full-time availability A current driver’s licence Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol test Working at ALS The ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.
