Your role at St John of God Midland Hospital We are currently seeking dedicated Security Officers to join our Security Services team on a casual and permanent basis. In this versatile role, you will maintain a strong and visible security presence throughout the hospital and surrounding grounds, ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for staff, patients, and visitors. You will respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including incidents involving aggression and personal threats (Code Black), while managing security and parking matters with professionalism and discretion. Delivering exceptional customer service is central to your role, contributing to a welcoming and secure atmosphere for all who enter our site. The Position Work closely with the Control Room Operators, Coordinator Security Services and Manager Support Services to ensure a peaceful and safe environment for caregivers, patients and visitors. Maintain a highly visible presence and proactive surveillance in the hospital. Actively promote and contribute to a culture of protective security. Rapidly respond to all emergency codes and manage the response in accordance with established procedures, action cards and training. Manage, control and prevent aggressive and violent incidents by patients, visitors and members of the general public. Liaise with Police, custodial services and fire brigade on operational matters. Conduct incident investigation and provide structured reports to Manager Support Services. Maintain the Hospital Security and Access Control System, including the printing, provision and issuing of security access cards. Patrol all car parks in accordance with procedures, monitoring for traffic flow, parking and security concerns. You will hold a Certificate II in Security Services (or higher) and a current Security Officer Licence, or be willing to obtain these qualifications. Proven experience as a security professional within the healthcare sector or a similar environment is essential, along with a current Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence (Car). You will have demonstrated expertise in de-escalating violent and high-risk situations, employing sound judgement, effective decision-making, and problem-solving skills while maintaining composure and control under pressure. To excel in this role, you will be enthusiastic and committed, with a proven ability to build strong, trust-based relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels. Exceptional communication, influencing, negotiation, and engagement skills are a must, alongside strong organisational abilities and the flexibility to adjust work priorities. You will be confident working both independently and as part of a team. A solid understanding of electronic security and fire systems, combined with proficient IT skills and familiarity with MS Office applications, is essential.
