Duties Key responsibilities include: Maintain, review, update, and implement City plans and documentation, including Local Emergency Management Arrangements (LEMA). Deliver prevention programs to reduce emergencies and improve community safety. Lead and coordinate the City’s emergency response functions during incidents. Build and maintain relationships with external partners, service providers, stakeholders, and the mining sector. Work with the community to improve risk mitigation for fire, storm, earthquake, airport, and other emergencies. Consult widely on fire management plans, emergency arrangements, recovery planning, and related plans. Provide technical expertise and advice to internal and external customers. Collaborate with Community Safety staff on safety and fire inspection programs. Support emergency readiness and response for the City’s airport. Prepare operational and Council reports as required. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation: Local Government Act (WA) 1995, Emergency Management Act 2005, Bush Fires Act 1954. Perform other duties as directed. Who we are Looking for: To be considered for this position, you will need: Extensive emergency management experience - (5 years), including bushfire response and incident coordination. Accredited qualifications - Level 1 Incident Controller, Fire Control Officer, plus current WA ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence and National Police Clearance. Strong legislative knowledge - Bush Fires Act 1954, Emergency Management Act 2005, and Local Government compliance requirements. Proven leadership and communication skills - managing operations, inter-agency collaboration, community engagement, and preparing plans/reports. Additional desirable skills - local government emergency operations, DFES mitigation funding, WorkSafe White Card, LGIS/AFAC training, and community resilience programs.
