Job Title Research Officer (Bioinformatics) Job Description An excellent opportunity is available for a Research Officer to join the Bioinformatics Research Laboratory of Dr. Yunshun Chen within the ACRF Cancer Biology and Stem Cells Division at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. About the Position Dr Chen’s laboratory collaborates closely with researchers across WEHI and external partners to study cancer biology, with a particular focus on the identification of cancer stem cells and mechanisms of cancer initiation. The lab applies single-cell and spatial omics technologies to cancer research and develops advanced computational and statistical bioinformatics methods to interpret complex genomic data from cutting-edge platforms. The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Yunshun Chen and will contribute to collaborative projects involving single-cell RNA-seq, spatial-omics, bulk RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, and studies of breast, liver and lung cancers. The role will involve performing bioinformatics analyses, working closely with experimental and computational scientists, and contributing to the development of novel statistical approaches, software tools, and machine learning models for large-scale patient and spatial omics datasets linked to clinical information. Selection Criteria The successful candidate will have extensive experience in large scale single-cell and spatial-omics data analysis and will be highly motivated to tackle complex problems in medical biology in an interdisciplinary environment. Knowledge and Skills: A PhD or equivalent qualification in a quantitative discipline such as Bioinformatics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Computational Biology. Proven data analysis expertise using R/Python and Bioconductor software. Experience with bioinformatics pipelines in Unix/Linux environments and on high-performance computing systems. Demonstrated experience in genomic, transcriptomic, single-cell, or spatial-omics research. Knowledge of machine learning or artificial intelligence methods. Understanding of data management, integrity, and security principles. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with researchers, bioinformaticians, and clinical collaborators. Personal Qualities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong time management and organisational abilities, with the capacity to prioritise and meet deadlines. High level of motivation and initiative to advance biomedical research. Outstanding teamwork and interpersonal skills for constructive collaboration in a multidisciplinary environment. Attention to detail with strong record-keeping and documentation practices. Terms of appointment The full time position is available for a period of 2 years . Salary is Research Officer Level A4-8 ($96,430 to $111,707) . Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
