Why this role matters The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of the largest providers of homelessness services across the country. Our philosophy is that every person should be afforded dignity and respect and that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. We provide services and supports to adults, and families with accompanying children in the form of accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services. About the role As a Community Engagement Coordinator, this is your opportunity to plan, implement, and organise activities that meet participants identified needs and wants, in line with service delivery objectives, TSA mission, policy, and procedure. Reporting to the Program Manager, this is a fixed-term position for 6 months offering full-time hours, based in Darwin, NT. This role requires the ability and willingness to be on call and work outside normal business hours, as required. This role is identified as requiring a First Nations person, in accordance with Section 351(2)(c) of the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) How you will make an impact Provide group facilitation, advocacy, referrals, liaising with other services providers and stakeholders both verbally, face to face and via emails. Support participants with arranging and attending appointments with a focus on health promotion and therapeutic needs. Be proactive in organising cultural activities for participants including yarning circles, meetings with families, or stakeholders. Support the program manager / team leader and homelessness staff in developing their knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Provide opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to connect with their community, families, and culture. Identify and implement ways to involve Indigenous clients in the ongoing development of services. What you will bring Qualifications (min. certificate IV) in community services or similar. Well-developed communication skills and confidence in group training and public speaking. Experience working with people who may not have English as a first language and knowledge of Local Aboriginal Communities and Culture. In-depth knowledge of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and culture A Working with Children (Ochre Card) Vulnerable people check is required A National police Record Check. A NT Drivers Licence Ability and willingness to be on call and work outside normal business hours, as required.
