Your role at St John of God Health Care As a member of our National Coding Team, your principle responsibility will be to code episodes of care across a diverse and expanding casemix within your skillset. This may include public and private episodes across acute and a variety of subacute care types. As a member of a large national team, covering 17 hospitals, across 3 states you will have a unique opportunity to develop your clinical coding skills while being supported by experienced clinical coders, an audit and education team, team leaders and an administration team. The Position Assign and record diagnosis and intervention codes for inpatient discharges using the scanned or digital health record as the main source document, in alignment with International Classification of Diseases and health related problems 12th Edition, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) within the guidelines specified by the relevant Health Department and the Hospital, in a timely and accurate manner. Ensure the accurate and complete entry of coded information into the relevant hospital’s Patient Management System. This includes creation of documentation queries and participation in our ongoing audit program. Attend and actively participate in continuing education programs relevant to clinical coding, including regular peer reviews. Utilise the 3M Codefinder (or similar system) to ensure accurate code and DRG assignment. Contribute to editing and verification processes in the preparation of coded data for submission for all mandatory data submissions including Department of Health (VAED, HMDS, PHISCO), Hospital Casemix Protocol and Private Hospital’s Data Bureau. You will have a minimum 2 years recent coding experience preferably in a tertiary or secondary hospital, with evidence of meeting coding expectations. You will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of casemix and diagnosis related groups (DRG) along with sound knowledge of the Australian Coding Standards and clinical coding issues. To succeed you will possess a Clinical Coder qualification, a Bachelor of Health Information Management, or equivalent experience. These roles are offered on a permanent part-time basis, hours to be negotiated with successful applicants. Location of work is offered from our Perth and Melbourne offices with a 40% work from home option.
