Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences Full-time, fixed-term position through to 30 April 2027 Base salary will range from $93,491 - $100,296 (HEW Level 6) 17% Superannuation Based at our Dutton Park campus About This Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Research Analyst to join our dedicated research team at Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS). As the Senior Research Analyst, you will apply subject matter expertise and advanced knowledge of analytical and/or organic chemistry to support QAEHS’ research activities and related consultancy projects through the provision of analytical, technical and administrative support. Key responsibilities will include: Analytical Operations: Perform and maintain GC-MS, LC-MS, and GC-HRMS analyses, including calibration, data integration, QA/QC, and reporting; ensure optimal instrument performance through routine and advanced maintenance. Research & Development: Design, conduct, and optimise experiments and workflows for targeted, suspect, and non-target screening using advanced mass spectrometry (LC-QToF, GC Orbitrap, GC/LC QQQ). Data Management & Reporting: Process and interpret analytical data, develop processing methods, maintain accurate experimental records, and contribute to research outputs, reports, and publications. Laboratory Leadership & Safety: Uphold high standards of laboratory practice, safety, and housekeeping; manage inventories; and mentor junior staff while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. About You Completion of an undergraduate degree in the areas of analytical and/or organic chemistry with subsequent experience in coordinating research activities, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Demonstrated research-relevant knowledge and skills with expertise in analysis and quantification of organic chemicals in complex matrices for a wide variety of compounds, particularly environmental contaminants. Expertise in the application of laboratory analytical instruments for trace analysis, including LC and/or GC instrumentation. Significant experience of working with vendor integration software (e.g. TraceFinder; Multiquant) as well as Microsoft Office Suite applications. Advanced technical capabilities in accurately interpreting and following methods and protocols (found in research papers, standard operating procedures, Australian guidelines etc.). High quality data analysis and interpretation, report writing, and database management. Detailed knowledge of legislative requirements and operating procedures for major areas of research and scientific safety such as quarantine procedures, waste disposal, labelling and risk assessment. Relevant experience in an analytical and/or organic chemistry role preferably in a research environment or the capability to quickly acquire this knowledge and apply in the workplace. Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation. The ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a research environment.
