About the role We are excited to offer a unique opportunity to join our Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) training program , a key investment in the future of our neonatal service. This program is designed to build internal expertise and ensure the ongoing delivery of safe, evidence-based, and family-centred care. Two part-time (0.5 FTE) NNP trainee positions are available, commencing February 2026 . The successful candidates will be required to enrol in the university program before the February intake closes. You will receive ongoing training alongside a peer, which will provide valuable support to your journey towards becoming a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. You will deliver evidence-based, autonomous clinical care for neonates, guided by approved frameworks for advanced nursing practice. Salary range: $66.85 - $72.58 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 access to many staff benefits! What you’ll be doing As a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in training, you will develop the skills and knowledge to serve as an expert clinician, managing and coordinating episodes of care either as the primary provider or in collaboration with the care team. As a valued member of our team, you will: Provide autonomous and collaborative care through comprehensive, holistic assessment and management of patients, applying advanced nursing knowledge and skills. This includes initiating and interpreting diagnostic investigations, performing procedural interventions, diagnosing, prescribing medications, and referring patients to other health professionals as appropriate. Champion education and research, actively engaging in initiatives that drive optimal patient outcomes and support evidence-based practice. Prescribe and implement therapeutic interventions in compliance with federal and state legislation and professional standards governing nurse practitioner practice. Commit to ongoing professional development, participating in continuing education, quality improvement programs, and clinical outcome evaluations. You will advocate for and contribute to systems that promote safe, family-centred care, partnership, and professional growth. About you As the successful candidate you will possess: Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and enrolled in an endorsed Post Graduate Masters course with commitment for endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner Minimum 5 years’ experience of service provision in neonatal care with proven ability to provide a high level of clinical practice in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia standards and Mater policy, procedure and expectations. Thorough knowledge of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation concepts when planning patient and carer needs. High-level interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills with the ability to engage with internal stakeholders at various levels Why join us?
