You will be joining environmentally focused policy agency, driving national initiatives to protect and enhance Australia’s natural assets. This role is in the Data and Analysis section, which acts as a data hub for the policy division by providing data acquisition, analysis, and reporting services, including the development and maintenance of interactive visualisation tools. The section’s strategic agenda focuses on consolidating datasets into a central hub, strengthening analytical capability for deep dives into emerging policy and regulatory issues, advancing data standards to support harmonisation, and using data to track progress towards policy and program targets. The Opportunity Support Australia’s environmental goals through data-driven insights Report to and learn from a fun, down to earth, hands-on Senior Data Analyst (EL1) Newly created fully funded long term contract through to 30 June 2026 with multiple extension options Collaborative, supportive team culture with flexible hybrid working (Canberra based) The Role Clean, wrangle, and validate datasets from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy for dashboards, reports, and internal briefings Maintain and update Power BI dashboards and visualisations, providing actionable insights to policy teams Support the Senior Data Analyst with operational and technical tasks to enable high-value strategic analysis Contribute to documentation, standard operating procedures, and quality assurance processes to ensure consistent, reliable outputs The Ideal Person You’re independent, methodical, and have a sharp eye for detail. You take pride in producing accurate, well-presented work and can manage data tasks autonomously while staying connected to your team and stakeholders. You bring demonstrated experience in: Analysing and interpreting data, and visualising complex datasets to generate actionable insights that inform evidence-based policy and program decisions Communicating and presenting data findings clearly to varied audiences using engaging visualisations and fit-for-purpose reporting tools Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to resolve data issues and deliver quality analytical outcomes Managing data, applying quality assurance and reporting processes, and using analytical tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python, or R Australian citizenship is mandatory, with a Baseline clearance highly desirable.
