The key duties of the position include Employment Opportunity The Legal Assistance Branch (LAB) of the Attorney-General's Department is looking for an EL1 to join the Legal Assistance Engagement and Partnership (LAEP) team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in an area that contributes to justice outcomes and community safety by supporting access to justice for people in Australia who are most vulnerable. LAB provides Government with policy advice on legal assistance and is responsible for Commonwealth programs which support the legal assistance sector to meet legal need. LAEP manages the Commonwealth's obligations under the National Access to Justice Partnership 2025-30 (NAJP). The NAJP is the new 5-year agreement that will deliver $3.9 billion to Legal Aid Commissions, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Services, Community Legal Centres, Women's Legal Services and Family Violence Prevention and Legal Services (FVPLS). The successful implementation of the NAJP is a priority for the Attorney-General. The successful applicant will work with the states and territories and the legal assistance sector and manage payments and reporting requirements under the NAJP. The work in the team is diverse including: supporting the Attorney-General and SES engagement with the legal assistance sector working with agencies on legal assistance opportunities (including preparing NPPs) providing advice on legal assistance policy (including coordination tasks) coordinating and providing secretariat support for inter-governmental committees assisting the public with legal assistance information. The role will require candidates to be agile, proactive and to work collaboratively with stakeholders and across teams in LAB, department and external agencies. Ideal candidates for this role will: have well-developed written communication skills, with experience writing a range of products be able to develop and maintain productive, collaborative and respectful working relationships with a range of stakeholders, including First Nations organizations, as well as across Government, states and territories and the non-government sector.
