About the role Evoenergy is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Principal Automation Systems Engineer to manage and evolve our SCADA and substation automation systems. This pivotal role is responsible for shaping the long-term strategy, overseeing asset planning, and delivering complex technical solutions that support the reliability and performance of our network. You’ll lead a team of engineers and technicians, drive innovation in automation technologies, and ensure compliance with industry standards and cyber security protocols. As a senior technical leader, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining standards, procedures, and specifications for SCADA and IEC 61850-based systems. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring the successful delivery of our SCADA program of work, including augmentation, asset replacement, and maintenance. Your expertise will guide the design, commissioning, and integration of advanced automation systems across Evoenergy’s infrastructure, supporting both operational excellence and customer outcomes. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage a team of SCADA and automation engineers and technicians. Develop and maintain 10-year asset-specific plans, strategies, and budgets for SCADA systems. Conduct whole-of-life asset analysis and risk-based investment scenario planning. Define and oversee the annual SCADA program of work, ensuring delivery aligns with business objectives. Develop and maintain standards, procedures, and specifications for SCADA and IEC 61850 systems. Ensure cyber security controls and compliance across all SCADA systems and networks. Our Ideal Candidate Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Telecommunications, IT or related discipline, with eligibility for ACT Professional Engineering Registration. Extensive experience in SCADA systems design, implementation, and commissioning, including IEC 61850, DNP3, and Modbus protocols. Strong understanding of cyber security for control systems and communications network design (IP, fibre optic, radio). Proven project management and strategic planning capabilities. Excellent leadership, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
