About the team - The Financial Accounting Team is a small but dynamic team that is primarily responsible for payment and receipt processes, financial and tax compliance, statutory reporting and treasury management within the ASC. We ensure a strong internal control framework is maintained around financial processes and systems whilst remaining compliant with all financial regulations. About the role - As a Financial Accountant, you will assist in the management of the ASC's financial activities, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with financial and tax requirements and maintaining accurate financial records. Working closely with the Assistant Director, you will: Contribute to the compliance requirements of the ASC, including financial reporting, treasury management and taxation compliance. Prepare monthly and annual financial reporting for inclusion in annual financial statements. Assist with responses to external audit requests. Prepare journals and account reconciliations for end-of-month requirements. Assist and support the Asset Accounting role in asset-related reporting. Provide advice to ASC employees on compliance requirements. About you - The preferred candidate must have the following essential criteria: Tertiary qualifications and/or progress towards completion in the field of accounting or commerce are required. Ability to manage workload and to prioritise competing tasks during peak periods (e.g month end and end of financial year). Good communication skills and the ability to translate technical financial concepts into easily understandable language. Sound Excel skills and demonstrated experiences with complex financial information systems (e.g TechnologyOne, SAP). In addition to the above, we are looking for a motivated individual with excellent attention to detail and experience delivering financial accounting functions within a Government Department context. The below criteria are desired: Relevant Government finance experience and understanding of Government controls, including the PGPA Act. CPA/CA qualifications or currently studying towards them.
