A French Teacher at Reddam House is responsible for teaching French as a second language to primary students and will also teach a limited number of Year 7 classes . This role involves contributing to curriculum development, promoting high teaching standards, and fostering a passion for language learning among students. You will engage students in a variety of subject areas, utilising creative and effective teaching methods that cater to diverse learning needs. In 2026, we will expand our student body from 500 to 850, and in preparation for this exciting growth, we are seeking outstanding educators to join our team in a limited number of newly created positions to start in January. This role is a 3 day a week position and could potentially expand to 4 days a week in 2027.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the design of curriculum, teaching strategies, and assessments aligned with Reddam House standards. • Collaborative Practice: Promote teamwork and continuous improvement in language teaching. • Teaching Excellence: Deliver high-quality French lessons across year levels, fostering strong student engagement and achievement. • Curriculum Alignment: Ensure the French program meets Australian Curriculum standards for second language learning. • Student Engagement: Create initiatives that spark interest in French language and culture, enhancing literacy and communication. • Cross-Curricular Integration: Work with colleagues to embed interdisciplinary approaches into teaching. • Extracurricular Leadership: Organise French-related clubs, events, and immersion experiences to enrich learning. • Community Communication: Maintain clear communication with parents and the school community about curriculum and student progress. • Policy Compliance: Ensure departmental adherence to school policies, safety regulations, and educational laws. • Pastoral Support: Be available to serve as Year Coordinator and provide pastoral care when needed. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: SKILLS & EXPERIENCE • Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and pedagogical practices for teaching French to non-native speaker • Experience in curriculum implementation, tailored to meet the needs of students learning French as a second language. • Experience in using data to inform teaching practices and improve student learning outcomes • Experience in organising and leading extracurricular language-related activities, such as cultural exchanges, excursions, and language competitions. • Ability to collaborate with colleagues across departments and contribute to whole-school initiatives.
