About the Team Our Pro Bono and Responsible Business practice is dedicated to providing free legal services to vulnerable and disadvantaged people, supporting charitable and community causes, advancing equality for First Nations peoples, and driving sustainability and ESG initiatives across the firm. BN’s dedicated pro bono practice seeks to address systemic legal problems and improve access to justice. We do this by providing free legal assistance to disadvantaged, marginalised and vulnerable people, and the charities and not-for-profit organisations that support them. Our pro bono practice has been recognised through awards for Pro Bono Partner of the Year and as finalists for Pro Bono Practice of the Year and Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year. About the Role We are currently looking for a junior level lawyer with 0-2 years’ experience to join the firm as a pro bono lawyer on a 2-year contract. Working under the guidance and supervision of Katie Swain, Principal and Head of Pro Bono and Responsible Business, alongside the Manager of Pro Bono and Responsible Business and another Pro Bono Lawyer, the responsibilities of this role will include, but are not limited to, the following: representing the firm during 6-month secondments to community legal centres (3-4 days per week); participating in our legal clinics appointments supporting community legal centres; providing advice and representation in a broad range of pro bono matters undertaken nationally within the firm including family, employment, wills and estates, health and insurance; and This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a growing pro bono practice working on pro bono matters both at the firm and as a secondee at a community legal centre. About you We’re seeking someone with: a current Australian Practising Certificate; a desire to give back to the community through pro bono; the ability to communicate and work with people at all levels and build strong relationships; strong communication skills; and enthusiasm, energy and a proactive “can do” attitude.
