About the company GBS Recruitment is working with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), a government agency that brings together Victoria's energy, environment, water, agriculture, forestry, resources, climate action, and emergency management functions into a single department to maximise connections between the environment, community, industry, and economy. DEECA manages public land and natural resources and is responsible for bushfire prevention and suppression in Victoria's National Parks, State Forests and Protected Public Land, covering approximately one third of the state. Each fire season, DEECA recruits approximately 200 additional staff to support its core firefighting force of 1,500 personnel. About the role GBS Recruitment is a trusted partner of DEECA, providing Labour Hire Services for casual support staff across Victoria. Roles required may include Forklift Drivers, General Labourers, Kitchen Hands, and potentially Supervisors and/or Team Leaders. These roles are essential to supporting effective emergency response operations. Duties include: General Labourers Setting up base camp sites Organising inventory of clothing and stock Re-fuelling vehicles Other related tasks Kitchen Hands and Cooks Assisting suppliers in the catering department with food preparation Providing meals for emergency services workers General kitchen tasks Forklift Drivers Responsible for managing logistics, including the safe and efficient movement, loading, and unloading of materials and equipment within the camp or worksite. Supervisors and/or Team Leaders: Act as the primary point of contact for senior management and external agencies, facilitating clear communication and coordination. Manage and coordinate a small team of labour hire staff, including assigning tasks and monitoring performance. Perform daily base camp operational tasks to maintain smooth and efficient workflows. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures across all activities. Please be aware that this work may require you to be away from your home for several days or nights at a time, with basic accommodation and meals provided. Working hours will be on an as-needed basis, with the possibility of 12-hour shifts for a maximum of 7 consecutive days. Casual roles are only available during significant natural disasters in Victoria. As a support worker, you will not perform frontline firefighting duties. To be eligible for this work, you will: Be physically fit and able to perform physically demanding tasks (including repetitive manual handling). Hold a current National Police Check or be able to obtain one. Hold a valid Drivers' Licence Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen with valid working rights.
