An opportunity exists for an experienced and proactive Head Gardener / Working Supervisor to lead and support the delivery of high-quality grounds maintenance and horticultural standards. The role combines hands-on gardening work with staff supervision, planning, and coordination responsibilities. Key Responsibilities: Supervise, train, and lead the gardening team, ensuring all work meets agreed standards. Develop and manage daily, weekly, and seasonal maintenance schedules. Oversee equipment use, maintenance, and inventory; coordinate repairs and replacements. Manage budgets, provide input on cost projections, and control expenditure on materials and services. Interpret planting plans and specifications, ensuring effective design implementation and ongoing garden development. Monitor and maintain the health of lawns, plants, and trees, including pest and disease management. Oversee chemical spraying, fertiliser application, and green waste recycling. Ensure compliance with all Health and Safety regulations and conduct regular on-site safety inspections. Support a collaborative, positive environment with staff, contractors, and residents. Essential Criteria: Full, clean driving licence . Recognised horticultural qualification . Strong practical knowledge of plants, trees, lawns, machinery , and H&S regulations . Proven team leadership or supervisory experience . Conscientious, hardworking, and physically resilient.
