The Opportunity Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Transport Planning Engineer to join our Traffic and Transport Unit within the Engineering Services Department. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to shaping a safe, accessible and sustainable transport network for our community in line with Council’s long-term strategic vision, MV2040. In this role, you will support the Strategic Transport Planner by providing expert advice on transport planning and traffic engineering matters for development applications, infrastructure projects and strategic initiatives. You will assist in delivering Council’s key transport strategies, including the MV2040 Connected Action Plan, Integrated Transport Strategy, Municipal Parking Strategy, and Walking and Cycling Strategy. Key Responsibilities Provide professional traffic and transport planning advice for development applications and strategic projects. Investigate and respond to transport, road safety and parking matters, ensuring solutions align with Council policies and engineering standards. Support the development and implementation of key transport and active travel projects. Manage and coordinate traffic studies, surveys and consultant projects within approved budgets and timelines. Prepare reports and recommendations for Council, internal departments, and external agencies. Collaborate effectively with internal teams, government bodies, public transport operators, and the community to achieve positive transport outcomes. Contribute to policy and strategy development relating to transport, parking, and road safety. Skills & Experience The ideal candidate will hold a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Urban Planning or a related discipline, with eligibility for membership to Engineers Australia (or equivalent). You will bring a sound understanding of traffic and transport planning principles, relevant legislation, and urban development processes, ideally gained through studies or early career experience in a local government or transport-focused environment. Strong analytical, problem-solving and report-writing skills are essential, along with proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and Microsoft Office applications. You’ll demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation abilities, enabling you to engage effectively with community members, consultants and government agencies. A proactive attitude, strong time management skills, and a genuine commitment to delivering sustainable, safe and efficient transport outcomes will see you succeed in this role. A current Victorian Driver’s Licence is required, and the successful applicant will be subject to a Working with Children Check and Police Check.
