Emergency Medicine Special Skills Registrar – Research ACEM Training Year 2026 (start date Feb 2 2026) We are seeking a motivated and passionate Emergency Medicine trainee to join our team and continue their training within the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN) in a unique Research Position based at Flinders Medical Centre. Special Skills Registrar: We are looking for a post Primary exam trainee in Emergency Medicine with a keen interest in Emergency Research to undertake a 12 month position as our ACEM accredited Special Skills Registrar Emergency Research (6 months accredited term in special skills and is a TS4 accredited). The successful applicant will work 0.5 FTE as an Emergency Medicine Registrar and 0.5 FTE in a dedicated Research Position The successful applicant will: Providing emergency medical assessment and treatment for adult and paediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department, in consultation with Consultants and Senior Registrars, and in collaboration with Nursing and Allied Health professionals. Coordinating investigations, management plans, and discussions with patients, families, and inpatient teams to ensure optimal and timely care. Supervising junior medical staff , including Resident Medical Officers (RMOs), interns, and medical students, to support their clinical and professional development. Liaising effectively with other services within the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SAHLN) and with community health providers to deliver comprehensive, patient-centred care. Participating actively in departmental education programs , including teaching, training, and clinical case discussions. Contributing to quality improvement and audit activities , supporting ongoing service development and excellence in patient outcomes. For the Research Component: Conduct a systematic review of the literature Design a research project (in consultation with supervisors) Prepare and submit an ethics application. Develop and submit a grant application Recruit participants, and obtain consent for current studies Collect, manage, and analyse research data for studies Write at least one manuscript for submission to a journal Present findings at least one national/international conference Present findings at internal research meetings and, where possible, external forums Participate in journal clubs and research methodology teaching Who Can Apply? The full contract offered to successful candidates will be of 3 years' duration, giving the trainee the flexibility to continue beyond their 1-year dedicated Special Skills Post in our mixed adult/paediatric ED should this suit their training plans.
