The Opportunity Following a recent restructure, the procurement function has moved from a small, centralised model to a specialist, stream-based structure covering ICT procurement, non-ICT procurement, reporting & governance, and capability uplift. This is a high-moment opportunity to join a growing team driving systems and process modernisation, capability uplift, and stronger governance. Flexible working arrangements are supported and candidates based in major Australian cities will be considered, with a preference for those able to work closely with national stakeholders. Flexible work arrangements are available, and while Canberra is preferred, other capital city locations may be considered for the right candidate. The Role Working within the Procurement and Commercial Services section, you will deliver compliant, efficient and commercially sound procurement and contract outcomes. Lead a small team of procurement professionals and oversee complex/high-value procurements Shape procurement strategy, strengthen governance and drive continuous improvement across the function Act as an escalation point for business areas and provide expert advice to senior executives Typical procurements include ICT categories (hardware, software, telecommunications, digital projects and related professional services) as well as cross-category work. Projects range from mid-value tenders through to occasionally larger, multi-million-dollar procurements. The Ideal Person You’ll bring a solid grounding in Commonwealth procurement, ideally gained across a range of categories. Experience in ICT procurement hardware, software, telecommunications, ICT projects, or professional services, will be highly regarded but isn’t essential. We’re looking for someone who has: Significant senior procurement experience (including people leadership), ability to advise senior executives, and experience managing complex or high-risk procurements Strong written and analytical skills, with the ability to prepare procurement documentation and navigate CPRs confidently A collaborative and curious mindset, with an interest in improving processes and sharing knowledge The confidence to engage with stakeholders and contribute to cultural and capability uplift within a growing team This is a high-performing and cohesive group where people support each other, share lessons learned, and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo.
