About the position Wollongong City Council’s Waste Services mission is to operate as a dynamic and sustainable business delivering value-for-money services to our community. The Waste & Resource Recovery Park (Whytes Gully) is a complex, fast-paced commercial operation with strict environmental standards and a focus on continuous improvement. Join us as a hands-on operational leader , driving improvement initiatives and overseeing daily operations. You’ll manage a team of operatives, operate heavy plant, and ensure safe, efficient civil works and landfill activities. You will be responsible for: Leading and motivating operational teams in a complex environment with variable conditions. Operating and overseeing multiple types of heavy plant and machinery. Managing civil works, landfill operations, and earthmoving activities. Championing operational improvements through strong, influential leadership and effective change management. Ensuring compliance with WHS standards and environmental regulations. Providing high-level customer service to internal and external stakeholders. Conducting daily site inspections and equipment maintenance. About you As a resilient and proactive leader, you will bring: Leadership that motivates and influences, backed by supervisory experience in civil works, landfill, or earthmoving. Experience in leading teams through change and driving continuous improvement. Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate complex operational challenges. A strong safety mindset and commitment to quality. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage teams and stakeholders.
