Your business: Everyday Business Banking supports Australian business' Everyday Banking needs, from the smallest businesses to the largest corporates. EBB is responsible for the end-to-end management of Deposit & Transactions, Payments Acceptance, and Health products. In addition, EBB is responsible for the delivery of business customers lifecycle management, cross-cutting initiatives, and working to support Banker’s in developing Transaction Banking client solutions to customers. See yourself in the team: We’re looking for a strategic leader to take ownership of merchant and product compliance risk across Payment Acceptance — spanning ecommerce, terminals, and more. You’ll be the go-to for all things scheme (Visa, Mastercard, eftpos, UnionPay), industry (AusPayNet), and regulatory (RBA, ATO, ACCC) compliance, driving outcomes that protect our business and customers. This role isn’t just about managing risk — it’s about leading through complexity, influencing senior stakeholders, and solving problems before they land. What you’ll be doing: Lead the end-to-end management of merchant compliance, acting as the central point of contact for internal stakeholders and external schemes on all regulatory matters. Shape and influence regulatory and policy development for merchant acquiring, partnering with senior leaders, product owners, and industry bodies. Own the response to new and existing scheme mandates — conduct impact assessments, identify risks, and drive strategic recommendations. Investigate and resolve compliance breaches, lead root cause analysis, and implement control improvements. Champion clarity — translate complex scheme rules into actionable business guidance. Drive documentation — oversee the creation and maintenance of policies, guidance, gap analyses, and impact assessments. Identify commercial opportunities with card schemes, including cost-saving initiatives and billing reconciliation. What you’ll bring: Proven experience in risk or compliance within financial services, ideally in merchant acquiring or payments. Strong leadership capability — you influence, challenge, and bring people on the journey. Deep understanding of card scheme rules, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards. Strategic problem-solver with a commercial mindset and a knack for simplifying complexity. Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills — you’re confident navigating senior leaders, regulators, and cross-functional teams.
