DIRECTORATE: Business, Growth & Community CLASSIFICATION: Grade F SALARY: $82,339 to $95,513 pa 12% employer contribution to superannuation Plus a fully maintained vehicle is available with access to AlburyCity’s Commuter Use Program REPORTING TO: Team Leader Cemeteries and Crematorium EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Permanent Full Time THE POSITION: Supervise and co-ordinate the grounds operation staff at Glenmorus Memorial Gardens and Crematorium (GMGC) and councils other cemetery portfolio, focusing on compliant provision of funeral services including coffin burial, cremation, interments, installation of memorials, horticultural maintenance and development of the cremation memorial gardens and bereavement parklands. Responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Carry out/Supervise grave digging, coffin interment and cremation processes to industry standards as directed by Team Leader Monitor and report monthly on financial performance of the grounds team and grounds maintenance/development works against budget Assist in business plans and budget preparations with written advice and recommendations when requested Supervise and lead the GMGC grounds crew including casuals, volunteers and contractors carrying out regular and periodic maintenance and future development projects as directed by Team Leader Undertake all employee management activities relevant to the role, including recruitment, performance management/reviews, employee development, disciplinary action, rostering and timesheets, as well as ensuring a high level of employee motivation and team harmony Coordinate the maintenance and development of GMGC and Councils other cemetery portfolio grounds, including all parkland and landscape (hard and soft) needs as determined by Team Leader Support the administration operations of the facility as required Provide quality written advice and recommendations on all aspects of GMGC and councils other cemetery portfolio short term and long-term horticultural maintenance and planning Prepare quality designs, and coordinate the construction of projects Prepare written reports and submissions relating to maintenance and development of the facility, such as mowing, rose, shrub and tree maintenance schedules Provide advice to GMGC management and customers in an informed and professional manner Provide specialist advice relating to the operation, maintenance & development of GMGC memorial parklands Use all plant and equipment in a safe and competent manner, ensuring all routine maintenance to plant and equipment is carried out. Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training. These times may vary due to operational requirements and will be determined by the supervisor. This position may involve work outside normal working hours. Additional hours over the standard 38 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed with your supervisor. This position requires you to wear a compulsory uniform as per AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: Certificate IV in a horticultural discipline or equivalent or relevant industry experience Class C (Standard) Drivers Licence (compulsory to have and maintain) Current accreditation in chemical use DESIRABLE CRITERIA: Proven successful experience in a cemetery, crematorium, memorial park, funeral environment Backhoe operator’s certificate EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated experience in leading a successful operational team Relevant industry experience in landscape management & design SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Sound computer literacy skills. Council uses Microsoft Office Applications. Ability to quickly learn new systems and applications A thorough knowledge of the following: Horticultural maintenance Arboriculture Turf management Irrigation design, maintenance and installation Project management fundamentals and development Business processes including profit and loss Customer Service in a sensitive sector Record systems including manual and on-line auditing Work layout for optimum performance and delivery Plan and Map reading Just-in-Time operational management Demonstrated experience in the use and maintenance of small and large plant operations Demonstrated knowledge of all WHS requirements and practices
