Description We are currently recruiting an Estimation Specialist – Complex Projects to join our team. This role can be based anywhere within our operational footprint. Reporting to the Estimation Senior Specialist – Complex Projects, the Estimation Specialist is responsible for the preparation, support, and peer review of cost estimates for large-scale electrical infrastructure projects. This role plays a critical part in informing business-critical investment decisions and driving continuous improvement in estimation practices. Key Responsibilities Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates for customer-funded and internally funded capital projects. Align estimates with project scope in collaboration with Network Development Officers. Ensure compliance with AACE estimate classifications and Essential Energy’s stage gate requirements. Apply best-practice estimation methods including first principles and rate-based techniques. Maintain and improve databases for labour, materials, and productivity rates. Communicate cost attributes, risks, and contingencies to a range of stakeholders. Ensure estimation inputs meet WHS obligations and support safe design and construction. Contribute to lessons learned reviews and continuous improvement initiatives. Promote and uphold Essential Energy’s safety, environmental, and quality standards. Demonstrate behaviours that support respect, equity, diversity, and inclusion. About You You are a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in cost estimation for complex infrastructure projects. You bring analytical thinking, commercial acumen, and a collaborative mindset to every task. You’re confident working with data, systems, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes. Required Qualifications/Skills Mandatory: Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Civil), or equivalent experience. Desirable: Professional cost management designations (e.g. MRICS, MAIQS). Certificate IV in Project Management. WorkCover NSW Construction Induction Certificate. Class C Driver Licence. Experience Proven experience in cost estimation or bid preparation for electrical or complex infrastructure projects. Experience applying engineering qualifications in the energy, utilities, or construction sectors. Demonstrated ability to manage complex issues and competing priorities. Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. Skills High-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimation software. Strong financial and commercial acumen. Excellent report writing and business planning capabilities. Ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
