DIRECTORATE: Infrastructure, Planning & Environment CLASSIFICATION: Grade B SALARY: $61,623.02 pa 12% employer contribution to superannuation REPORTING TO: Team Leader City Planning & Team Leader Development EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Temporary Full Time - up to 2 years THE POSITION: Assist in the delivery of the Town Planning service at AlburyCity, which includes, the provision of development advice, assessment of applications and creation of strategic policy for the future development of the City. The position will also assist in the provision of customer service of a high standard for all customers. Responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction, assist in the following: Assessment and determination of Development Applications against various statutory legislation applicable to the planning purposes. Site inspection of new and existing developments ensuring compliance with conditions of approval and all relevant legislation. Advisory service to all customers in relation to Local Environment Plans (LEPs), Development Control Plans (DCPs) and Council policies. Review and preparation of LEPs, DCPs and other non-statutory documents. Consultation with internal and external stakeholders and the local community on strategic planning matters Review and preparation of codes and policies in relation to development control. Preparation of reports on specific planning matters as and when required. Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence and training. Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS. This position may involve work outside normal working hours. Additional hours over the standard 35 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed in advance with your supervisor. This position involves working in a predominantly indoor environment and using a computer is considered a core component of the role. There may be occasional visits to other work locations. The position requires an average level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake occasional physical activities, including manual handling tasks as part of a normal working environment. A medical declaration will be required to be completed prior to commencement. This position requires current enrolment in a recognised university degree in Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent). The study component of the course will be primarily completed outside standard working hours of the position. This position is temporary for a period of up to 2 years. This position requires the employee to lodge an annual Pecuniary Interest Return. This position is delegated with certain powers, authorities, duties and functions of Council under the AlburyCity Delegations of Authority in accordance with section 378 of the Local Government Act. This position does not require you to wear a compulsory uniform, however you must follow the dress code requirements within the AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely. This position is located at the AlburyCity Administration Building, 553 Kiewa Street, Albury with regular visits to external sites/depots as required for inspections etc. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: Must be currently enrolled in the second final or final year of a recognised university degree in Urban and Regional Planning (or equivalent). Completion of Year 12 Higher School Certificate or equivalent Class C (standard) Driver's Licence or Provisional Licence (compulsory to have and maintain) DESIRABLE CRITERIA: A strong aptitude in Mathematics and English Knowledge of the building and construction industry SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: A general interest in Town Planning High level of computer literacy and ability to learn new systems/processes as required Ability to learn and understand relevant legislation in relation to town planning Familiarity with Microsoft Office and an ability to use office equipment
