We are looking for a proactive, energetic Operators who are committed to supporting the City to reduce waste to landfill through waste and recycling centre options, to achieve the strategic targets, improve the customer experience, and increase recycling. Multiple opportunities are available on a casual basis, including weekend work. About your new role Our Waste Management Branch operates Waste and Recycling Centres (WRC) across the City. The Waste and Recycling Centre (WRC) network serves around a million and a half visitors and processes over 100,000 tonnes of waste per annum. Working at various Waste and Recycling Centres across the City, the WRC Operator is responsible for the general operation and associated duties of a WRC, promotes recycling and provides a safe and hazard free workplace for staff and customers. Key Deliverables include: Ensure all work/activities are carried out in accordance with the obligations detailed in the Workplace Health & Safety Act & other relevant legislation and procedures. Control traffic within the Waste Recycling Centre. Maintain all grounds, roadways, site office and surrounds to ensure they are always clean, tidy and hazard free to provide a safe workplace. Presents a clean and tidy station that facilitates clear and easy access for customers. Understands and follows safe work instructions (SWI's) prior to undertaking/performing tasks and seeks advice and/or assistance from colleagues to ensure correct procedures are adhered to. Effective, polite and efficient communication with all stakeholders including but not limited to contractors, City of Gold Coast staff and members of the general public. A team player who positively contributes to the improvement of work processes and embraces change. Other duties that may arise from time to time that fall within the scope of the position. Ensure a positive Council image by providing and promoting a high level of proven customer service at all times. Direct and assist customers to promote recycling. Ensures the customer's needs and questions are addressed and provides additional information and/or support where required. A sound knowledge of Councils waste and recycling practices and enforces Council Policy as required. About you: Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships. Ability to effectively deal with difficult and non-conforming customers adhering to City of Gold Coast protocols. Work independently and work as an effective team member. Undertakes daily activities without being prompted and follows directions to perform tasks required of the position. Is diligent in following processes and procedures to maximise efficiency and operational effectiveness. Proven time management skills to meet work priorities. Knows what work is required and within what timeframes it needs to be completed. Logically sorts tasks and duties in order of importance and sequentially allocates sufficient time for completion. A passion for and the ability to influence and promote recycling and reduce waste to landfill. Demonstrated ability to satisfactorily perform the physical duties of this position. Maintains a high level of physical fitness required to perform duties. Undertakes physical work in accordance with organisational policy and procedure. Where necessary, seeks support and guidance to perform strenuous activities. Current C class driver's license. Construction Safety Card – White Card (or the ability to obtain) Ability to work outside of core business hours, including weekends, on a rotating rostered basis.
