With the adoption of the Lockyer Valley Planning Scheme in July 2025, as well as significant growth and development occurring in the region, Council has a schedule of strategic planning projects that need to be delivered to guide the orderly and sequential growth and development of the region. As such, Council are seeking a suitably qualified individual to fulfill the role of Principal – Growth and Policy within the organisation. About the role: Reporting through to the Manager of Planning, Policy and Community Wellbeing, you will guide the orderly and sequential growth and development of the region. The position oversees the functions of strategic land use planning, Environmental policy and strategic flood engineering. Responsibilities include: Providing leadership of a team of four (4) that includes strategic land use planning, environmental policy and strategic flood engineering. Maintaining and amending the Lockyer Valley Planning Scheme to ensure that the planning scheme reflects the aspirations of Council and the Community. Developing land use plans such as completing a regional Growth Management Strategy and implementing structure planning initiatives. Delivering a new Local Government Infrastructure Plan. Overseeing and implementing the development of policy and projects in relation to environmental matters and strategic flood engineering. Providing expert and timely advice to internal and external stakeholders. About you: To be successful in this role, you will need at least 5 years of experience in strategic planning or a similar role. You will also require excellent communication skills to engage effectively and confidently with both internal and external stakeholders. The role requires a high level of political awareness to understand and support the organisation’s vision. Proven technical expertise in delivering planning schemes, amendments and planning projects is essential, as are solid leadership capabilities to manage and guide the team. How to Apply?
