Your key responsibilities Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. Provide expert clinical advice and leadership in surgical safety and quality improvement. Support the development and implementation of best-practice approaches to surgical governance, including patient engagement and risk mitigation. Lead the establishment and delivery of a new Surgical Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) to identify systemic patient safety issues and make recommendations for service improvement, including oversight of its work plan and reporting processes. Chair the new Surgical QAC. Lead the Getting it Right First Time (GiRFT) to identify unwarranted variations in care, set performance standards, communicate vision and standards to the team, and drive improvements to optimize patient outcomes and public health care system value. Utilise data from multiple sources to identify patient safety risks, monitor surgical outcomes, and inform targeted improvement strategies. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design 'fit for purpose' improvement programs targeting surgical outcomes. Strengthen partnerships with Hospital and Health Services, and professional colleges, consumers to ensure diverse perspectives inform surgical safety initiatives. Actively influence and engage stakeholders to adopt evidence-based surgical safety practices through education, advocacy, and consultation. Mentor and coach staff within the Clinical Excellence Queensland, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, and support broader workforce capability in surgical safety. Mandatory qualifications, registrations and other requirements Medical degree and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Medical Board of Australia, with a current annual practicing certificate. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) Highly desirable: Qualifications and/or experience in clinical leadership, health service management, or patient safety science It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment (Health Employment Directive No. 01/16): measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) varicella (chicken pox) pertussis (whooping cough) hepatitis B tuberculosis The essential requirements for this role are: Minimum 5 years' experience, post FRACS Advanced knowledge of surgical safety, clinical governance, and human factors. Proven ability to influence system-wide change. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in surgical care. Proven track record in leading statewide reform, building consensus across disciplines, and shaping policy directions.
