About the UTS and Cisco Partnership UTS and Cisco have formed a partnership enabling UTS to join the National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN). The NIIN was founded by global technology leader Cisco in 2020 in direct response to many of the challenges Australia faces in terms of realising the economic potential of digital technologies and improving collaboration between business and universities. Since 2020, the NIIN has grown to become Australia's largest industry-university innovation network, now comprising Innovation Centrals, University Research Chairs, Specialist Centres, dedicated Alliances in Health and in Cybersecurity, targeted skills and talent initiatives, and a program engaging former Cisco engineers and business leaders in academia. The UTS-Cisco partnership includes three-year seed investment for: • Establishment of Innovation Central Sydney, an innovation centre where industry, government, researchers and students co-design, prototype and test digital technology solutions to address real-world challenges UTS will establish and host ICS at the Broadway campus (CB02.11.167), and it will become the only NSW based Innovation Central in the NIIN. • Cisco Research Chair in Sustainable Engineering, • Alliance Manager who will also serve as the Director of Innovation Central Sydney; responsible for supporting the strategic partnership and leading the successful establishment, delivery and growth of Innovation Central Sydney About the role The Research Chair program is a critical element of the NIIN. It was established to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and industry application, ensuring that digital innovation translates into real-world impact. Each NIIN Research Chair leads applied projects in their selected industry vertical or technology domain. As the Chair in Sustainable Engineering, you will lead a multidisciplinary applied research program aligned with both UTS and Cisco priorities, drive industry-led research in areas such as sustainability engineering and renewable technology and build research project teams. A critical distinction between this role and other academic roles is that it is focused on delivering applied research projects in response to industry needs and in partnership with industry. The role will also be critical to establishing lnnovation Central Sydney as a global hub for digital transformation and sustainability, strengthening the university's research capability, attracting external funding, and fostering deep collaboration between academia and industry. As the Chair, you will be embedded in ICS and will contribute to shaping the selection and delivery of ICS projects. The Research Chair is expected to work alongside the Professor of Practice, who will drive industry engagement and provide guidance on innovation for NIIN projects in collaboration with the Rese About you The Chair is expected to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to drive industry engagement and foster effective working relationships with partners and other key stakeholders. You will also be an inspiring leader, with the ability to operationalise strategy. Remuneration Base Salary Range: $183,507 - $228,179 (Level D/E) This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary. This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 2 years and 9 months from the start date of the contract.
