The Gas and Liquid Fuels Division (GLFD) provides policy advice and delivers policy reforms and programs that underpin the reliable and affordable supply of gas and liquid fuel. Gas powered generation has an important role in firming the electricity grid as Australia transitions to renewable energy. AEMO forecasts the system will need up to 10 gigawatts of gas-powered generation capacity by 2050. Gas also provides a valuable source of heating for businesses and households and feedstock to industrial users. Over time gas use across the economy will need to decline to meet Australia's net zero target. The Division works closely with colleagues across the department and at a state/territory level to progress reforms to improve the functioning of gas markets, to ensure ongoing reliability and affordability of gas supply for consumers as the energy sector transitions. Australia's liquid fuel supplies are essential for the nation's security and underpin the operation of our economy. The Division works to ensure liquid fuel can be reliably delivered to support Australia's growing economy and essential services as we transition to net zero emissions. The Division works to maintain our domestic refining capability, build our domestic fuel reserves, return Australia to compliance with our International Energy Agency (IEA) membership obligations, increase our emergency preparedness, bring forward improvements to fuel quality, and maintain security of critical inputs to our transport energy system such as Diesel Exhaust Fluid. We also identify and facilitate opportunities to support the fuel market transition and enhance Australia's energy security. The Division strives to give staff at all levels the opportunity to participate in collaboration, consultation and problem solving and is committed to the continued development of our culture. The Division champions and pursues three key themes, supported by an action plan: Grow Our People Be Amazing Leaders Promote Health and Wellbeing The Division has a Staff Consultative Committee, Policy Steering Committee, Capability Development Series and Weekly Divisional Newsletter to support the implementation of the action plan. The Division is committed to work life balance and staff wellbeing and is fully supportive of flexible work arrangements, including remote working, where they align with business and personal needs. The Delivery and Strategy team drives financial planning, implementation, and reporting to support divisional business, ensuring evidence-based decisions can be made by the Governance Group (HoD and BHs). The team also provides PMO support, project and monitoring tools to track key milestones. These processes help divisional staff achieve the delivery of their priorities by optimising resource allocation and managing the division's risks for the Head of Division.
