The Transition Branch incorporates Transition Policy, Employment Programs, Veteran Chaplaincy and the Veteran Support Office. The Branch focus is supporting veterans and their families with contemporary transition supports from DVA. The Veteran Support Office works to a nationally consistent service delivery mode educating and assisting veterans, families and the broader veteran community on DVA support services. The Veteran Support Office (VSO) is seeking Team Leader VSO- Community Support who will work as part of a national VSO team. The Team Leader VSO will supervise the establishment and functioning of embedded DVA services within the veteran community. This position has the responsibility for ensuring that the reputation of DVA within the wider community remains of good standing. Team Leaders will work with Assistant Directors, often in an autonomous manner, to complete directed tasks and managing a small national team of Community Support Advisors. Team Leader VSO must have a good appreciation for veterans and veteran family individual circumstances, working to provide expert advice at the right time with an ability to translate this into guidance for next steps in achieving business-as-usual arrangements with DVA. This role requires excellent organisational skills and an ability to communicate with and present to a broad range of stakeholders and veterans. All roles in the VSO must present well, be highly professional and understand the Defence community context in relation to supports and services available from DVA and be able to manage multiple tasks. The key duties of the position include Provide high-quality personalised service to current and formers members of the ADF, in line with the DVA Cultural Vision and the national Policies, Procedures & Key Performance Indicators, as implemented Provide leadership, mentorship, guidance and support to VSOs on matters relevant to DVA services and entitlements Provide advice and interpretation, including in writing, on various aspects of legislation to clients and colleagues Develop strong partnerships with key stakeholders including Command elements, ADF Rehabilitation Program (ADFRP), Veteran Employment Industry and ESOs, to enhance service delivery to the veteran community Work closely with key veteran community stakeholders to support the delivery of DVA services and activities which may be accessed/considered during the relevant stages of transition Perform representational and outreach activities, including presenting at seminars, community events, meetings, etc., as required Assist with the development and maintenance of a VSO national training continuum for all new and incumbent VSO staff, ensuring that service delivery and education to veterans, their families and the community remains consistent and contemporary Design and review presentations to support veterans, ESOs and community organisations including internal content to provide a contemporary service. This may include designing and reviewing external content that is visible to veterans and organisations Provide support to the continuous improvement/quality assurance process through training and feedback to staff Demonstrate an understanding of matters relevant to DVA services and entitlements in line with the government's focus on transitioning members and life after service Provide early identification of veterans at risk or with high needs for referral to DVA's Client Support Program Provide training, coaching and feedback to staff.
