Reporting to the General Manger Environmental ANZ, this rare and pivotal role is responsible for driving technical innovation and continuous improvement across ALS Environmental operations in Australia and New Zealand. Based in either Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth this is a key role within the ANZ Environmental Senior Leadership team. We are looking for a strong and visionary leader who is results oriented and excels in building cohesive teams with a culture of excellence. You will understand the value of simplicity and focus, excellence over perfection and driving a high accountability culture. Our ANZ Environmental business has a history of strong financial performance with high quality service and a track record of exceeding client expectations. Your background in the technical leadership of a commercial laboratory or similar environment will be invaluable. The day to day In this role, you’ll act as a commercially focussed technical leader. Shaping the direction of our Environmental business and supporting the adoption of best-in-class science and technology. Your key responsibilities will include: Leading technical development initiatives for the ANZ Environmental business Leading and coordinating a small team of highly experienced R&D Scientists Driving best practice methodologies and ensuring consistent technical excellence across all labs Partnering with global peers to contribute to international research and innovation projects Advising the business on emerging technologies, market trends, and analytical opportunities Leading vendor engagement to identify and deploy new analytical technologies Mentoring and developing technically gifted and high-potential staff across the region Representing ALS at industry conferences, client meetings, and technical forums The essentials We’re looking for a respected technical leader who combines deep analytical expertise with strategic vision and collaborative leadership. You’ll bring: A tertiary qualification in Science, ideally Chemistry (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) Minimum 10 years’ laboratory or industry experience, including 5 years in the Environmental sector Strategic thinking and project execution skills Proven ability to lead technical programs and deliver innovation across multiple sites Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels Demonstrated success in mentoring and developing scientific teams Willingness to travel across the ANZ region and internationally Working at ALS The ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.
