In this role, you'll: • Design, implement, and validate advanced machine learning models and statistical methods to analyse train condition monitoring data • Promote data quality, governance, and ethical AI/ML practices in maintenance and operations • Translate engineering and business challenges into data-driven solutions by working closely with engineers, maintenance teams, operations staff, and asset managers • Build dashboards and visualizations to monitor train component health and communicate insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders • Develop and maintain robust data pipelines for ingesting, cleaning, and storing data from various train condition monitoring sources • Support integration of new monitoring technologies and data sources; contribute to fleet digitisation, reliability improvement, and cost reduction initiatives • Provide expert advice on passenger rolling stock and train condition monitoring systems; review and report on data from Sydney Trains and ARTC systems • Stay updated on global developments in data science and train monitoring technologies; evaluate new capabilities for applicability to Sydney Trains • Assist in developing and delivering training to Sydney Trains staff and external stakeholders • Conduct data reviews for project acceptance, meet critical deadlines, and foster a safety culture in design and delivery • Review and provide advice on data science aspects of existing and new systems/projects in a timely manner • Assist Train Condition Monitoring Engineers in monitoring alarms and alerts, ensuring technical and safety assurance. About you • Tertiary qualification in Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related quantitative field • Proven experience in data mining, analysis, visualization, and machine learning • Strong skills in tools like SQL, Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or DOMO • Deep knowledge of time-series analysis, anomaly detection, and predictive modelling • Experience designing, developing, and deploying AI models using industry-standard frameworks • Familiarity with rolling stock systems (e.g., braking systems, bogies, wheels) and wayside train condition monitoring systems • Experience providing technical direction and specialist advice to engineering teams and stakeholders.
