Electrical Engineering Technician Employment Type : Full Time Salary: $38 to $48 Summary of Role: The Electrical Engineering Technician supports the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems used in industrial, mining, and energy infrastructure. This role acts as a key link between engineering design and field implementation, assisting qualified engineers and electricians with technical documentation, commissioning, and equipment calibration. The technician ensures that systems function efficiently, meet safety and quality standards, and align with project specifications. Key Responsibilities: • Assist engineers in preparing electrical layout drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams using CAD software. • Support installation and modification of electrical equipment, including switchboards, motor control centres (MCCs), and control panels. • Conduct field testing, functional verification, and documentation of electrical components and systems. • Assist with commissioning procedures for power and control systems, including fault diagnosis and performance testing. • Install and configure instrumentation such as pressure, level, and temperature sensors under engineering supervision. • Maintain detailed records of test results, calibration certificates, and engineering changes. • Monitor electrical systems in operation, collect performance data, and report anomalies or risks. • Provide technical support during breakdowns, shutdowns, and remote diagnostics. • Ensure compliance with Australian Standards (AS/NZS) and workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations. • Liaise with suppliers for technical specifications and documentation of purchased equipment. Required Skills and Attributes: • Technical understanding of low and medium voltage electrical systems, control systems, and instrumentation. • Proficiency in using electrical testing tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment. • Ability to interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation. • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures. • Good communication skills for coordinating with engineers, tradespeople, and suppliers. • Sound knowledge of safety practices when working around live equipment or in hazardous environments. Qualifications and Experience: • Certificate IV or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrotechnology, or similar – required. • Industry experience in industrial electrical systems (1–2 years minimum preferred). • Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation, and motor control systems is advantageous. • Current White Card and Electrical Safety Awareness training required.
