Job Title Senior Executive Officer Job Description An excellent opportunity is available for a Senior Executive Officer to join the Strategy and Governance Department at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. About the Position The Senior Executive Officer provides essential operational and strategic support to the Director, Deputy Directors, Executive and the Strategy and Governance team within the Office of the Director, engaging widely with internal and external stakeholders. Leveraging scientific and organisational insight, the Senior Executive Officer contributes to the advancement of strategic initiatives through research, preparation of briefing and presentation materials, and support for advocacy efforts that align with organisational goals. The Senior Executive Officer facilitates decision-making by leadership around major honours and award nominations, convening the Honours and Awards Committee and overseeing nomination and application processes. Additionally, the role facilitates the engagement of the Executive with government bodies and external stakeholders. This position offers the opportunity to combine strong organisational management with strategic support and stakeholder engagement, helping to drive key priorities and contribute to WEHI’s ongoing success Selection Criteria Essential Knowledge and Skills: PhD qualification in Life Sciences Demonstrated experience in writing successful, complex proposals, business cases and communications materials, preferably for multiple stakeholders and/or complex initiatives The ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, and to maintain tact and composure in such circumstances Planning and organisational skills, with experience establishing priorities, allocating resources and meeting deadlines Ability to investigate, analyse and consolidate information to position proposals in a broader context Ability to prepare documents using a range of software packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat Pro Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills Desirable Knowledge and Skills: Strong administrative experience Experience in an academic or research environment Close knowledge of, and interest in, developments in the biomedical sector and allied sectors Personal Qualities: Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and prioritise responsively. Excellent communication skills (written, visual and verbal), with the ability to present complex data in a clear and compelling way. Ability to maintain high integrity and confidentiality. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, bringing analytical insights into broader strategic discussions. Expertise in identifying problems, analysing root causes, and developing solutions that are sustainable and scalable. Terms of Appointment This position is an ongoing role in a full-time ca pacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee Level 8 ($118,099 - $127,828). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
