About the role Be the welcoming voice of the hospital: Answer and manage internal and external calls clearly and professionally, ensuring patients, staff, and the public are connected quickly and accurately to the right area. Respond with confidence in emergencies: Act swiftly and calmly during urgent situations, implementing hospital procedures, liaising with Security, and/or contacting the Mental Health Crisis Team when required. Support patients and callers with care: Provide compassionate assistance for general patient enquiries and offer empathetic support to distressed callers, including those facing challenges with drugs, alcohol, or mental health. Keep hospital systems accurate and up to date: Maintain daily medical rosters, update contact directories, and provide guidance on using telecommunication equipment to keep operations running smoothly. Work flexibly as part of a 24/7 team: Contribute to a dynamic, rotating roster that includes mornings, evenings, and overnight shifts, ensuring continuous switchboard coverage across the hospital. About you Experienced and confident in challenging environments, with the ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations. Switchboard or contact centre experience highly regarded, with strong skills in managing calls and enquiries professionally. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to manage difficult situations and provide exceptional patient service independently. Decision-makers under pressure, able to implement emergency procedures accurately and maintain calm in high-stress situations. Professional and adaptable, well-presented with the ability to engage with staff, patients, and the public, and flexible to work night shifts as part of a rotating roster. Why work at St Vincent’s?
