About the Role Relationships Australia Queensland (RAQ) is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Child and Youth Counsellor to join our Thriving Kinnections program on a full-time, fixed-term basis. This rewarding role will support children, young people, and families impacted by domestic and family violence (DFV), with a focus on culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches. This position is part of our Thriving Kinnections Program in Townsville, which is dedicated to supporting First Nations children and families. We are committed to building a culturally safe and welcoming workplace that values the knowledge, strengths, and lived experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In this role, you will provide culturally informed interventions to First Nations individuals and families in the Townsville community impacted by family violence. Your work will focus on fostering healthy relationships, addressing violent and abusive behaviours, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of individuals, children, and families. Additionally, you will: Provide individual and group counselling to children, young people, and families affected by DFV Deliver culturally safe, healing-focused interventions using a child-centred and family systems lens Support community education initiatives and build partnerships with local service Contribute to the development and facilitation of culturally based group programs Maintain accurate records and support program evaluation and reporting Advocate for the rights and safety of clients within systems and services About You To succeed in this role, you will be a compassionate, skilled professional with a deep understanding of DFV and the intergenerational impacts of trauma. You will be confident engaging with diverse communities and committed to empowering families through strengths-based support. Additionally, you have: A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or a related human services field Demonstrated experience providing therapeutic support to children, young people, and families Knowledge of domestic and family violence legislation and trauma-informed care High-level interpersonal, communication and advocacy skills Ability to build trust and work collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples Competence using client information management systems and digital tools We Can Offer You At RAQ, we believe in supporting our people both inside and outside the workplace.
