As the site Head of Engineering & Facilities, you will be instrumental in building, leading, and scaling the Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Metrology functions across the Drug Substance and Drug Product manufacturing facilities. You will take a leadership role during the construction, start-up, and commissioning phase of this state-of-the-art mRNA manufacturing site and establish core capabilities for its operational success. Reporting to the Executive Director, Global Maintenance and Operations, you will also be a key member of the Site Leadership Team. Here's What You’ll Do Your key responsibilities will be: Leading Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Metrology activities at the Melbourne MTIC manufacturing site. Serving as a key contributor during the construction, CQV, and operational readiness phase of the new facility. Developing and staffing the full Facilities & Engineering (F&E) organization, aligned with the operational readiness timeline. Designing and deploying a robust, reliability-centered maintenance program in collaboration with Moderna’s global manufacturing network. Ensuring compliance with local safety standards, government regulations, and Moderna internal procedures during all phases of the project. Collaborating with Moderna Facility Services to harmonize site-level practices with global best-in-class benchmarks. Your responsibilities will also include: Defining departmental objectives, performance goals, and vendor management strategies. Implementing and maturing maintenance systems covering calibration, spare parts, and preventative programs to mitigate business continuity risks. Leading or overseeing investigations, CAPAs, deviations, and change controls with a quality-focused mindset. Supporting regulatory inspections, partner audits, and internal compliance reviews with technical and documentation expertise. Authoring and approving GMP documentation, SOPs, and technical protocols. Building a high-performing, inclusive team culture with clear goals, mentorship, and succession planning. Identifying deputies and ensuring business continuity. Acting as a cross-functional thought leader, solving complex technical challenges alongside operations, safety, and quality leaders. Ensuring strict adherence to GxP regulations and Moderna documentation/data integrity standards. Completing all required training plans in accordance with requalification timelines. Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications) Education: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field required / Master’s degree preferred Experience: Minimum 15 years of Facilities and/or Engineering experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries required / Minimum 7 years of experience leading a Facilities & Engineering group Demonstrated aptitude or ability to learn in order to gain a strong understanding of GxP regulations (specify GMP, GLP, GCP, GVP or other applicable standards) This position is site-based, requiring you to be at Moderna’s site full-time. This position is not eligible for remote work.
