The Opportunity We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Instrumentation Engineer for a 24-month fixed-term contract . You will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems across a range of critical projects within the refinery. This hands-on role includes both design and site-based responsibilities, offering a unique opportunity to work on some of the most advanced electrical systems in the industry. Description Key Responsibilities Design and develop electrical schematics, layouts, and wiring diagrams using tools like AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PowerCAD5, and SPEL . Conduct load calculations, circuit analysis , and select components for power distribution, control systems, and instrumentation. Collaborate with mechanical, software, and systems engineers to integrate electrical designs into wider plant systems. Maintain plant instrument systems , including hardware, software, and communication networks. Support maintenance planning , fault finding, and continuous improvement of electrical and control systems. Ensure compliance with IEC, AS/NZS, IEEE , and client-specific standards. Prepare and update technical documentation , including BOMs, manuals, drawings, and procedures. Liaise with vendors, oversee installations, and support commissioning as required. Skills And Experiences What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or a related Engineering discipline. 5 years’ experience in electrical design, ideally in project or industrial environments. Strong knowledge of analog/digital circuits, PLCs, SCADA systems , and industrial automation. Experience with instrumentation , VSDs, HMIs, and control systems in heavy industry. Working knowledge of functional safety (e.g. ISO 13849), and relevant Australian Standards (e.g. AS/NZS 3000). Ability to interpret electrical drawings and manage technical documentation. Proficiency in MS Office , electrical design tools, and simulation software (e.g. MATLAB, Dialux Evo). Excellent problem-solving, communication , and project coordination skills. HV experience and hazardous area knowledge are advantageous but not essential. Why Townsville?
