Where you'll be working The Sutherland Hospital is a 375 bed Major Metropolitan Teaching Hospital affiliated with the University of NSW, located in the Sutherland Shire 25 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. A 44 bed Emergency Department which includes 3 resuscitation bays, dedicated Adult and Paediatric Fast Track areas, an 8 bed ED Short Stay Unit, a collocated Radiology Department with CT scanner. The addition of 60 new acute inpatient beds, including 6 additional ICU beds and a 16 bed General Medical Unit. There are 24hr diagnostic services and excellent support from Mental Health, ICU and community/aged care services and nursing staff. Sutherland Hospital provides a 24/7 Interventional Cardiology service. Inpatient services include most subspecialties; General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Urology, Vascular Surgery, Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Oncology, Renal, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Aged Care, Rehabilitation and Mental Health. What You'll Be Doing The General Medical Unit cares for inpatients with complex medical and social issues. The Trainee will gain experience in a wide range of areas including infectious diseases, immunology, rheumatology, pain (acute and chronic), toxicology, drug and alcohol medicine, mental health including eating disorders, disability medicine and the management of patients with multisystem disorders and undifferentiated presentations. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration categoryFour or more postgraduate years with an interest in internal medicine and / or preparing for or having passed the RACP Divisional Clinical Exam.Professional attitude and flexibility, with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on-call rosters.Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertiseDemonstrated effective communication, interpersonal and time management skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
