Infrastructure Engineer Location: Canberra, ACT Job Type: 12-Month Contract - $900 p/d Client: Fed Gov Agency Visa Status: Australian Citizen (Must have NV1 security clearance) Role Overview: An experienced Infrastructure Engineer is needed to join a multidisciplinary technical team for a complex IT build project in the Defence sector. This role involves the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware across multiple datacentres, along with producing highly detailed documentation to support project success. You will contribute to the overall design, build, and sustainment of a highly secure infrastructure environment. Key Responsibilities: As an Infrastructure Engineer , you will be responsible for: Hardware Maintenance & Support: Managing and maintaining hardware across multiple dispersed datacentres to ensure optimal performance and availability. Design & Documentation: Developing and maintaining detailed design and operational artefacts that support the ongoing delivery and sustainment of the system. Continuous Improvement: Leading continuous improvement activities, including capacity planning and optimisation of system performance. Firmware & Capability Building: Developing capabilities to better manage and maintain the environment, such as firmware updates and improved operational processes. Team Collaboration: Working alongside a multidisciplinary technical team to ensure project milestones are delivered on time and meet specifications. Essential Experience & Skills: To be considered for this role, you should have experience in the following areas: Datacentre Operations: Proven experience deploying and managing hardware within data centre environments. VMware VCF Management: Experience with the deployment and management of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF). CMDB Management: Proficient in managing a Configuration Management Database (CMDB) to track infrastructure assets. HPE Compute & Storage Management: Experience in configuring and managing HPE Compute and Storage solutions. Network Storage & Security: Familiarity with network storage technologies (iSCSI, Fibre-Channel) and network security technologies, such as Palo Alto NGFW. Networking Fundamentals: Solid understanding of networking configuration and troubleshooting, particularly with Cisco IOS-XE and NXOS. VMware SDDC: Experience working in a VMware-deployed Software-Defined Data Centre (SDDC) environment. Security & Compliance: Understanding of the Essential 8 security controls and compliance with ISM (Information Security Manual) requirements. Desirable Experience: While not essential, the following experience would be advantageous: Agile Environment: Experience working within an Agile team structure. SDN Familiarity: Knowledge of Software-Defined Networking (SDN), particularly Cisco ACI. DevSecOps Experience: Experience in a DevSecOps model, with an emphasis on CI/CD methodologies for code and configuration promotion. Automation Tools: Familiarity with automation tools like Terraform and Ansible for managing infrastructure. HPE Storage Management: Experience with HPE Storage configuration and management (RCG/CLI). NSX-T Firewalls: Understanding of NSX-T East/West firewalling concepts. Desirable Qualities: Strong ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting. Proven experience in mentoring and influencing colleagues. Ability to work to a project schedule and deliver successful, client-focused outcomes. Excellent communication and reporting skills. Strong research and learning abilities, with a passion for improving technical knowledge. Comfortable managing multiple tasks and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
